If the columns have a black background you can fix it by setting your screen to use millions if colors.
If all the cards are transparent and only the edges are showing it means that your graphics card isn't modern enough. The cards are rendered using some of the extended OpenGL functionality.
If you have other problems, please report them in the bug report. Please include which version of Solitaire XL you're using and describe the specifications of your Mac: Model name, graphics card, CPU, system RAM and OS version.
